Mr. Duke Buchan was officially sworn in yesterday as the United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, during a formal ceremony held in Washington, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the long-standing diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Ambassador Buchan is expected to arrive in Rabat in the coming days to formally assume his duties. Following the swearing-in ceremony, he expressed his strong commitment to further deepening the historic ties between the United States and Morocco, a relationship that spans more than two centuries.
In his remarks the newly appointed ambassador highlighted his determination to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as security, trade, education, and clean energy, emphasizing that “Morocco remains a vital and reliable partner for the United States in the region and a model of stability and openness.”
Mr. Buchan succeeds Bonnie Talbot, who had been serving as Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat. His appointment is expected to bring fresh momentum to the growing U.S.–Morocco partnership, especially following Washington’s 2020 recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.
This new diplomatic chapter reaffirms the strategic depth of Moroccan–American relations, built on shared values and mutual interests, including a Free Trade Agreement, security cooperation, counterterrorism efforts, and joint initiatives for sustainable development across Africa.
