Casablanca’s Place des Nations Unies came alive Thursday evening with the opening of the 13th edition of the Njoum Gnaoua Festival. The event, led by Ms. Chaymae Laouina, Festival Director and President of Abwab lkhams Association, goes beyond music performances to showcase Morocco’s rich heritage and reinforce Casablanca’s role as a hub for art and culture.
The opening night featured performances by Joudour Gnaoua and renowned masters Ayoub Bousta, Mohamed El Omri, and Saïd Kabenti, highlighting the authenticity and spiritual depth of Gnaoua music. The festival also introduced contemporary elements, including DJ RAMAN, who blends traditional Gnaoua rhythms with modern electronic sounds.
Over three days audiences will enjoy a mix of veteran artists like Hamid El Qasri and Halima El Kourd, emerging talents, and cultural workshops for children, alongside exhibitions by local craft cooperatives.
Supported by the Ministry of Youth Culture and Communication, the Casablanca-Settat Region and the Casablanca municipality, the festival not only preserves Morocco’s musical heritage but also enhances the city’s cultural and economic visibility nationally and internationally.
